Tungsten Carbide Roller
Tungsten carbide rollers deliver the wear resistance, red hardness and rigidity that steel and cast-iron rolls cannot match. Made from premium WC-Co hard alloys and manufactured through precision powder metallurgy - pressing, sintering and diamond grinding - our carbide rolls hold their profile under heavy loads, high speeds and elevated temperatures, which means longer service life, fewer roll changes and more consistent product quality in your mill. We manufacture to your drawings or application requirements: standard and custom dimensions, a wide range of carbide grades, and surface finishes to your tolerance. Every roller is inspected before shipment, and our engineers are available to help you select the right grade and design for your process. Tell us your specification, and we'll respond with a quotation and lead time.
Tungsten Carbide Roller FAQs
Tungsten carbide (WC-Co hard alloy) offers hardness of HRA 85–93 - far above steel or cast iron - combined with excellent wear resistance, red hardness (the ability to stay hard at high temperatures) and high rigidity. In practice this means dramatically longer service life, fewer roll changes, better surface quality of your product and lower overall cost per ton, even though the initial price is higher.
They are widely used in wire rod mills (finishing and pre-finishing rolls), bar mills, strip and sheet processing, guide rollers, pinch and straightening rolls, tube and pipe mills, and cold rolling operations. We also supply carbide rollers for high-speed, high-temperature and high-wear lines where conventional rolls wear out too quickly.
Yes - customisation is our standard. You can supply a drawing or simply tell us your application, and we will propose the suitable carbide grade, dimensions (OD, ID, width, groove profile) and surface finish. Common grades include YG6, YG8, YG15, YG20 and ISO K-series equivalents; we help you match the grade to your rolling conditions.
Our precision grinding allows outside-diameter tolerances in the range of ±0.01–0.02 mm (depending on size and profile), with surface roughness as low as Ra 0.2–0.4 μm when required. We confirm the achievable tolerance for your specific geometry before production.
Lead time typically ranges from 2 to 5 weeks depending on quantity, grade and complexity; MOQs are flexible for both trial and production orders. We provide material certificates, inspection reports, and our engineers offer application support - if a roller does not perform as expected, we work with you to analyse the cause and adjust the grade or design.

Tungsten Carbide Rollers: engineering guide
Tungsten carbide rollers - also known as hard alloy rolls, WC rolls or carbide rolls - are manufactured by powder metallurgy: tungsten carbide powder is mixed with a cobalt binder, pressed into shape and sintered at high temperature, then finished by diamond grinding to precise dimensions. The result is a roller with hardness of HRA 85–93, a density of approximately 14–15 g/cm³, and outstanding resistance to wear, thermal fatigue and deformation. In rolling applications, carbide rolls outperform alloy steel and cast-iron rolls by several times to tens of times in service life, which is why they are the standard choice for the finishing stands of high-speed wire rod mills, bar mills, guide rollers and strip processing lines. Selecting the right carbide grade is the key to performance: lower-cobalt grades (such as YG6/YG8) offer maximum hardness and wear resistance for finishing, while higher-cobalt grades (YG15/YG20) provide greater toughness for impact-loaded roughing and guide applications. Geometry also matters - groove profiles, OD/ID dimensions, keyways and surface finish must all be matched to your mill and product. When you work with AstraRoll, we start from your drawings or application data, recommend the appropriate grade, manufacture to tight tolerances, and inspect every roller before delivery. Whether you need a single trial roller, a full set for a finishing train, or ongoing supply for a continuous line, our tungsten carbide roller service covers design, production and technical support. Contact AstraRoll with your specification for a quotation - and let us help you extend roll life, reduce downtime and improve the consistency of your output.
