Product Overview:

In advanced printing, thermal transfer, and high-speed laminating applications, the fusing of materials requires intense, sustained heat combined with precise mechanical pressure. Standard NBR or polyurethane rubber rollers quickly degrade, harden, or melt when subjected to temperatures exceeding 150°C. The AstraRoll Custom Silicone Rubber Roller is engineered specifically for these severe thermodynamic environments. Formulated from premium, high-purity silicone elastomers, these rollers provide exceptional thermal stability, operating continuously at temperatures up to 250°C without losing their geometric integrity, elasticity, or Shore hardness. Furthermore, silicone's inherent low-surface-energy (non-stick) properties prevent hot adhesives, molten plastics, and inks from adhering to the roller face. Vulcanized to precision-machined metal cores using proprietary high-heat bonding agents, these rollers are indispensable components in hot foil stamping, edge banding, plastic film extrusion, and high-temperature converting lines.

Custom Silicone Rubber Rollers for High-Temp Printing Materials Details

The AstraRoll Technical Advantage

We compound and vulcanize our silicone rollers in-house to guarantee flawless performance under extreme heat:

Extreme Thermal Endurance: Our industrial-grade silicone formulations resist thermal degradation. They will not crack, glaze, or deform even under continuous 24/7 operation at 250°C, ensuring a perfectly uniform nip pressure over a long service life.

Superior Release Properties: Hot-melt adhesives and thermal inks will aggressively stick to standard rubber. AstraRoll silicone features a natural, non-stick surface, preventing web wrap-arounds and drastically reducing cleaning downtime.

Advanced Core Vulcanization: The severe expansion and contraction of metal cores during heating and cooling cycles can cause inferior rubber coatings to delaminate. We utilize a multi-stage chemical bonding and heat-curing process that guarantees the silicone will never separate from the steel or aluminum core.

Micro-Precision Grinding: A high-temperature roller is only effective if its pressure is uniform. We utilize CNC cylindrical grinders to finish the silicone surface to a strict Total Indicator Runout (TIR) of ≤ 0.02mm, preventing air bubbles in laminating and ensuring crisp, flawless thermal printing.

Why Choose AstraRoll?

1. Custom Silicone Compounding

Not all high-heat applications are identical. If your thermal printing process also involves high mechanical pressure, standard silicone may tear. AstraRoll's material engineers can blend custom high-tear-strength (HTS) silicone compounds that provide both the required heat resistance and extreme physical durability for demanding web tensions.

2. Factory-Direct Recovering Services

When your current silicone rollers eventually wear out, cut, or groove, do not throw away the expensive metal shafts. Ship your worn rollers to the AstraRoll facility. We will strip the old coating, re-machine the journals if necessary, apply a brand-new silicone vulcanized coating, and grind it to OEM dimensions at a fraction of the cost of a new assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How do I choose the correct Shore A hardness for my printing application?
A: The hardness depends on the substrate you are pressing against. For delicate, thin plastic films or uneven surfaces, a softer silicone (e.g., 30A to 50A) is recommended as it conforms easily. For high-speed flat laminating or pressing rigid materials like wood veneers and metals, a harder silicone (e.g., 70A to 85A) is required to apply focused pressure.

Q: Can silicone rollers withstand the chemical solvents used to clean printing ink?
A: While silicone is the ultimate champion of heat resistance, it is generally sensitive to certain harsh hydrocarbon solvents (like toluene or MEK), which can cause the rubber to swell. If you must clean the roller, we recommend using isopropyl alcohol or mild, silicone-safe cleaners. If heavy solvent resistance is more important than extreme heat, let our engineers know, and we may recommend a specialty fluorosilicone or EPDM blend.

Q: Can you provide "crowned" silicone rollers?
A: Yes. Under heavy nip pressure, long rollers can slightly bow in the center. We can CNC-grind a parabolic "crown" (making the center slightly larger in diameter than the edges) to compensate for this deflection and ensure a perfectly flat pressure profile across your printing
