Matte Roller Manufacturer
Product Overview
Matte Roller is a precision core component for continuous roll-to-roll web processing lines. Unlike mirror rollers with high-gloss reflective surfaces, matte rollers feature uniform, controllable micro-textured surfaces generated via specialized surface finishing. When in contact with films, fabrics, paper and other continuous substrates under pressure, the roller transfers a consistent matte finish to the material surface. It also provides an optimized substrate for coating and printing processes to regulate surface gloss, friction coefficient and coating leveling performance.
Matte rollers are widely used in printing, web converting, packaging, textile and other continuous material processing applications. They are critical components for flexible packaging, decorative film, coating and fabric finishing production lines. Custom dimensions are available to match machinery with different web widths, line speeds and pressure requirements for medium and high-speed continuous manufacturing.
Substrate Selection & Basic Mechanical Specifications
The roller substrate guarantees geometric accuracy and bending resistance under high-speed operating conditions. The primary substrate material is 42CrMoA alloy steel , while 45# seamless steel forging is an alternative option. Substrate processing workflow: forging / rough turning → quenching & tempering heat treatment → dynamic balance correction → finish turning → precision grinding, to eliminate internal stress and minimize long-term deformation.
- Substrate hardness: 42CrMoA reaches HRC 28–32 after quenching and tempering
- Radial runout on effective working surface: ≤0.002 mm
- Dynamic balance grade: ISO 1940 G2.5, suitable for high-speed web lines
- Maximum operating line speed: up to 600 m/min (subject to roller diameter, face width and working conditions)
Surface Treatment & Key Technical Indicators
The mainstream manufacturing process:substrate + hard chrome plating + controlled blast matte finishing. Alternative texturing technologies are available upon customer request.
1.Hard chrome coating: standard coating thickness 0.08–0.15 mm, microhardness HV 800~1000 (approx. HRC 62–68). It delivers superior wear resistance and chemical resistance against inks, coatings and adhesives to extend roller service life.2.Controlled blasting texturing: standardized abrasives with precise control of blasting pressure, distance and duration to achieve target roughness consistently.
- Available roughness Ra: 0.3 μm ~ 6.0 μm; low Ra yields subtle matte finish while higher Ra creates heavy matte texture
- Adjustable gloss level: 5~60°
- Texture uniformity: roughness tolerance within ±0.1 μm across the entire effective roller face. It ensures uniform matte appearance over full web width without streaks or localized bright spots.
Optional solution: laser-etched matte rollers with high texture repeatability, ideal for high-end decorative film and premium packaging production lines, at a higher cost than blast-finished matte rollers.
Core Functions
- Gloss control: creates stable matte texture on films, paper and other substrates, eliminating mirror reflection to meet aesthetic requirements of matte packaging and decorative films.
- Enhanced coating adhesion: micro rough texture increases bonding area between substrate and ink, coating or adhesive layers, reducing shrinkage cavities and delamination.
- Friction regulation: controls friction between web and roller surface, preventing slipping, wrinkling and web deviation during high-speed running for stable web transport.
- Matte forming: cooperates with calendering and lamination processes to form matte texture on substrate surfaces.
Application Scenarios
1.Printing Industry: flexographic and gravure printing lines. Matte rollers work as back-up rollers or coating rollers for matte ink application and finished product gloss control.
2.Packaging Web Converting: BOPP matte film, PET matte film for flexible packaging, food packaging and daily chemical packaging film calendering and coating processes.
3.Decorative Film Production: PVC decorative film, furniture wood grain film and architectural decorative film for matte surface material manufacturing.
4.Textile Finishing: calendaring of synthetic fabrics and nonwovens to adjust fabric gloss and achieve soft matte textile surfaces.
5.Other continuous web processing: paper coating, leather lamination and continuous calendering of plastic sheets.
OEM / ODM Customization
We provide OEM and ODM services. Custom roller diameter, effective face width, shaft configuration, surface roughness and gloss grade can be manufactured according to customer drawings and operating parameters. Dynamic balance inspection, non-destructive testing and factory test certificates can be supplied. Our rollers adapt to different line pressure, temperature and line speed requirements.
Quality Control & Delivery
Full inspection is carried out before shipment: dimensional measurement, roundness and radial runout test, surface roughness inspection, hardness test and dynamic balance testing. Waterproof and rust-proof export packaging is adopted, global shipping available. Lead time is determined according to specification complexity.
Operation & Maintenance Guidelines
- Avoid scratching the roller surface with hard objects to protect the delicate matte micro-texture.
- Clean the roller with compatible solvents; steel brushes are prohibited.
- Apply anti-rust treatment and store in a constant-temperature dry environment during long idle periods.
- Periodically inspect surface roughness. Re-chroming and re-matte finishing can be performed once wear reaches the service threshold.
